Halfway Through 2nd Trimester

Thursday, April 7, 2016

I thought that I would update more on the pregnancy than I have been. Honestly, there isn't much to update on, besides things going pretty smoothly and slow. In my last update, I wrote about not having any morning sickness or nausea etc. Everyone said that if I didn't get it in the beginning, I probably wouldn't just start getting it. So far, so good.

The most important piece of new information as far as an update is that my baby boy is moving and kicking all of the time. I read in one of the many pregnancy apps that I have, that they sleep about 18 hours a day. Let me tell you baby boy kicks and moves for the other 6 hours! It's absolutely amazing. Jose has been able to see him move and kick as well. It's hard to get him on video but I did manage to get a few kicks, see here, I put some clips together of him moving and kicking.

We are 22 weeks along. He is about the size of a spaguetti squash, weighing in at 1 lb. I was waiting for that, every time I saw his weight increase. One app says he's about 8 in long the other says 11 in long. Either way, my baby boy is big. I have my next appointment tomorrow, where one of my important questions will be about his pediatrician. How to pick one, where are they located etc. I'll be delivering in Boston, and I'm excited about that. However, I don't want his pediatrician to be located in the city as I don't want to deal with the traffic for his many appointments.

I have been sleeping well. I am not so sleepy anymore, like during my first trimester. I mostly wake up about 2 or 3 times to use the bathroom and am able to fall back asleep. I do prefer to sleep on my left side. I was able to sleep on my belly for a while, but that stopped a few weeks ago. I wake up at 5am every morning, and generally go to bed between 9pm and 12am, depending on what is going on that night.

During my first trimester I was gagging a lot while brushing my teeth. That has thankfully stopped altogether. It was the worst feeling, and it feels great to brush without any worries.

There are absolutely no stretch marks as of yet on my belly. I am sure I might get one or a few, I am ok with it, I am also ok if I don't. Emily loves to rub my belly and comments on how soft it always is. My sweet friend sent me the Burts Bees Vitamin E oil, and I love it. It doesn't leave me super oily but covers me up nicely. I don't like the cocoa smell from the popular Cocoa Butter so I was trying to avoid using that at all costs. I use the oil every day, sometimes twice a day, if I remember.

I have needed to purchase new underwear, new pants, shirts, and bras. My jackets don't zip up, well, one of them does but is super tight and uncomfortable. I am looking forward to Spring so that I don't need the coats anymore. Don't want to invest in a bigger coat for the short amount of time we have left with this Winter weather. I also can't wait to wear these white jeans from Old Navy! It's just too yucky out with the  dirty slushy leftover snow.

I have felt my nose a lot more oily than before. I was wearing my Raybans yesterday and they kept sliding off my nose, it was because of the oil. Pretty gross I know. I've also had a few breakouts here and there. The other day I had two pimples on my nose. They were forming a village right on the tip. Glamorous. Any tips on the oil during pregnancy?

The nursery is coming along, wasn't sure if I should show an update pic or maybe just pictures of a few items we have purchased for the room. I plan on doing a nursery tour once it's finished. I think I got ahead of the game and got too much ready too early (is that even possible). We have the crib, wardrobe (no closet in the room) mattress, crib sheet, curtains, rug. We know which chair we want and a possible dresser to also use as changing table. Those are the last big pieces for the room. We are going for an "industrial" old silver and blue plane theme. We don't want to do too much airplanes nor too much blue. The sheets, rug and chair are a plain gray to offset too much blue and too many planes. We did buy this fabulous plane which was our inspiration to possibly hang on the wall as a decor piece until he's old enough to play with it. We love the pillow too!

We have chosen a name, not sure if I updated that on the blog but we have mentioned it on our vlogs. Lucas. That's his name! We have not yet set in stone a middle name but we have several to choose from.

I just love you so much Lucas. So excited to feel you, have you with me all of the time and when I finally get to hold you in my hands time will stop for a quick second.

Linking up for Thoughts for Thursday.

One more day for your weekend! Woohoooo!

  1. Your nursery theme is the cutest- I can't wait to see it when it's done. That is a bummer about the oil on your face, I have that problem all the time with my glasses and it is so frustrating!

  2. The gagging while brushing my teeth thing never went away during pregnancy for me. I still worry it might happen, and my son is almost 6 months old haha. Your nursery finds are so cute!

  3. Well I am happy to hear that there isn't anything to report and that you're pregnancy is going smoothly!! My sister delivered all three babies at Beth Israel and has nothing but great things to say about them...and her pediatrician for a long time was in Brookline! xo, biana -BlovedBoston
