Infections During Pregnancy-Weekending

Monday, February 29, 2016

I thought about it twice when thinking about writing this sort of sad post, but I thought it might help 1 expecting mother out there and wrote away. Ear infection, nasal infection, fevers, a cough... Oh my. That's basically what my weekend consisted of. I started to feel a tingle in my throat on Tuesday and on Wednesday morning I felt sick enough to see my doctor. I've gotten sick in the past, but I've never been sick and expecting. I wasn't even sick during my first trimester, so yes, I was nervous at times about the baby... Baby is perfectly fine of course but I think we will all worry.

Turns out what I thought was just a "bad" cough was really an ear infection, nasal infection, fever and cough. The cough hurt my chest so much I tried to avoid it as much as I could, which wasn't very much.

Jose was sick too. He didn't have the infections like I did but he was sick and out for the count like me. That's the hard part, when your spouse is sick too. He was able to take medicines Were , he was prescribed three different medications. Because of my pregnancy they had to be careful with what they gave me. I ended up getting antibiotics for the ear infection and a type of Claritin for the cough and pain.

I started taking the medication as soon as I got it back from Walgreens, but didn't feel it take effect until very late Thursday. Fast forward to today, Sunday afternoon, yesterday for you if you're reading this on Monday... I still have the pounding headache, the ears don't hurt but I still have the cough. It still hurts and it still sounds rough. Randomly I get "cough attacks" where I feel something in my throat and get this inevitable feeling to cough and just keep going for what seems like forever.

Besides the doctors recommendations for medications I tried some home remedies Jose's mother believes in... I did as much as put cold tomato slices on my throat in hopes it would soothe the inflammation and make me feel better. I've never been a big believer in home remedies but when you are sick and pregnant, you'll try anything to feel yourself again. I also tried to have spoonfuls of honey and gargle warm salt and water every once in a while.

We made an attempt to get some fresh air on Saturday but I ended up having one of those cough attacks in public. So we decided Sunday we would just go back to basics and do movies and the couch all day. Hoping to get better for a new work week.

I tried these under the eye masks in hopes to feel a little better, they were nice and refreshing. I also went through my lipsticks in hopes to downsize a bit, and am sharing my top 5 favorite nude lipsticks later on this week.

That sums up my weekend, add a little Fuller House on Netflix and some ice cream... How was yours?
