1st Trimester

Wednesday, February 24, 2016

Woah, where do I start? If you had no idea, here's the post where I announced #BabyyPeña. The first trimester went a little fast and a little slow... Is that possible? It went by fast because we found out we were expecting during my 7th week, so literally half of the first trimester went by without me even knowing we were expecting. The rest of the weeks went by so slow because we were waiting to tell family.

We wanted to wait to tell family until at least 12 weeks, which is pretty normal, but we couldn't hold it and told our closest family at 9 weeks. We waited to tell Emily until 11 weeks (she's super thrilled by the way)!

Luckily, I had no nausea, nor morning sickness. I have to say though, the sleepiness that I felt at 1pm was REAL! I've heard from other moms how bad morning sickness was, so I can't complain about he sleepiness and hunger. Because, let's be real, the hunger was and still is intense! I am basically eating every two hours (small meals/snacks) and drinking a major amount of water.

I had an ultrasound at 7 weeks and a few days because I was spotting, this was on Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas! I had another ultra sound the following week to see if the spotting had reduced or stopped, and it had stopped completely.
The doctors said this was completely normal and I should not worry, of course I worried. My husband says I will worry for the rest of my life now. If you don't know, he has a 7 year old beautiful daughter, whom I have a wonderful relationship with. So, he's been on the "worrying train" (is that a thing?) for many years now.

Other symptoms I felt during my first trimester, besides being sleepy and hungry: a mild case of gas and some gagging while brushing my tongue. We will leave it at that, no extra details necessary. I also completely lost the need and/or desire for coffee every morning and night, I just didn't feel like having it, and the best part was that I didn't get any headaches. (Fast forward to second trimester, I love coffee again, and wish I could have two cups instead of the one suggested by my doctor).

Although I was constantly hungry, I never felt like I wanted something specifically, until one day I wanted a fish sandwich from McDonalds. I hardly ever eat fast food, so this felt like a craving to me. I had to have it, and rushed to the nearest McDonalds after work to get a piece of heaven in my tummy.

I started to use maternity wear towards he end of my first trimester because although my clothes still fit, they weren't comfortable. As soon as I bought maternity underwear, pants and tops, I felt much better throughout the day. I don't want to spend a fortune on clothes I won't wear much, any suggestions on places I could buy cute inexpensive stuff?

I think thats it for an update. I'm well into my second trimester and will update soon!

Please, feel free to ask any questions, I'd love to answer them and let me know if you'd like to see more updates on the blog about my pregnancy.
