WHEN TRAGEDY STRIKES

Monday, January 26, 2015

I am so happy to be able to use my blog to help others. Today I am asking for your help. Whether you can help yourself or share this post on your social media in hopes that someone else can help.

When tragedy strikes, we unite, we help and we comfort. This past Saturday night, as we were getting ready for bed, our lives were changing, without knowing it. What were you doing a few minutes after 8pm? Emily and I were finishing up a snack, Jose was outisde shoveling a little so it wouldn't accumulate. We were headed upstairs when the banging on the door started. Startled, I couldn't imagine who would be banging on our door that way, it wouldn't be Jose as he has keys and wouldn't bang on our door like that. I was frightened as the thoughts ran through my head as to who and why.

I go to the door, scared, and I saw the next door kids crying and yelling that their house was on fire! I grab my phone and call 911 as fast as my shaking fingers would allow it. It felt like it took the firemen FOREVER to get there, but isn't that how it always feels, when you want something really bad it feels like forever.

The house was completely lit up, the house next to it caught on fire as well. Both total losses.

Jose's parents own that home two houses down from where we live. A family of ten lived there-4 adults, 6 children ages 4 months old-14 years old.

You always see it on the news, you never think it could happen to you, although it wasn't our home, it hurts twice because it's Joses' parents house so we are seeing the "after" (paperwork etc) and the family that was renting is like family. They have lived there for so many years and helped with Emily when she was younger.

It is really sad what has happened, but there is hope. In a matter of minutes people were at our door step with donations, food, clothing, jackets, school uniforms...

This family fan out of their home with fear in their eyes, and watched their home fall apart. They are all ok, and that is the most important thing. Now it's time to rebuild. They ran out with their now only possessions. Some in pajamas, nobody had a coat on, the mom ran out without her shoes, in the snow. They are are homeless, and have the clothes on their backs as their only possessions.

They have been placed in a hotel for two nights, but re-building will take time and money. To make it a little easier on them we are asking that if you find that you have a little to share, to please do so to their GoFund account.

We are so thankful for everyone's generosity already, any little bit helps.

Hope you have a blessed day and stay safe, hug your close ones a little closer today.

Please go HERE to help.

HOW TO BE HAPPY

Thursday, January 22, 2015

How to be happy, 10 different ways.

1. Don't compare, everyone and every situation is different. You are unique.

2. What other people think about you is none of your business.

3. Everything requires time. Give yourself some.

4. Stop over analyzing EVERYTHING.

5. People are not out to get you.

6. People only show what they want to, they may really be miserable behind the screen. Don't think any ONE person has a super awesome life.

7. We always want what we can't have, at the moment, you'll get it one day.

8. Splurge a little.

9. Done a little.

10. Don't let anyone else define how your day is going to be.

Loved sitting down and writing these down. Have a super awesome day!

A little #tbt- February of 2014, Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.

What are some ways you remind yourself to be happy?

THE WINTER CAME AND I QUIT

Wednesday, January 21, 2015

I ran my first race last Summer at the Gillette Stadium. We finished at the 50.

It was a really cool experience, I went on to run another 5K-Boston Wounded Veterans Race.

We ran every Thursday with a group of friends at Deer Island.

We also ran often throughout the week just Jose and I.

Then the Winter came and I quit.

It's cold, it's dark, and I lack motivation. A few days ago, I saw a post, "Summer bodies are made in the Winter".With our wedding  and Summer coming up I realized this was completely true! I need to get back into exercising. So, I cut on my junk food intake, and started to drink more water. For me, it's easier to exercise when my eating habits are better. Now it's been a week since I have been more careful of what I eat, without neglecting myself of a super good dinner out on the weekend.

When it's nice out, we walk often, even to get my coffee a few blocks down the street. Who wants to walk in the cold, and I mean, it gets super cold here in Boston. I get a snap chat almost daily of a friend who ran with us last Summer, it's always him going to the gym. Agh! Wish I had THAT MOTIVATION. I get out of work so late, the last thing I want to do is go to the gym, but enough excuses, I can work out at home.

This is me putting myself out there to exercise, ask me in a week how it's going !!

What are your eating habits like this Winter? Are you a runner? Let me know in the comments section below...

SISTERHOOD OF THE WORLD BLOGGER AWARD

Tuesday, January 20, 2015

How excited do you get when you get nominated for something? I get really excited. Today I am FINALLY getting around to doing the post that Laura  nominated me for.

The rules:
1. Thank the blogger who nominated you by linking back to their site.
2. Answer the ten questions that have been set for you.
3. Make up ten new questions for your nominees to answer.
4. Nominate ten people.
5. Have fun!

The questions from Laura:
1. Who is your fashion inspiration?
I don't have someone in specific I look up to when it comes to fashion, however, I do love Lauren Conrad.
2. Do you have any pets?
I do not!
3. What is your favorite quote?
Very common: Do unto others as you would like done unto you.
4. Favorite song right now?
My favorite songs always consist of the ABC's or the Itsy Bitsy Spider.
5. What is your New Years resolution?
I don't usually have resolutions, but I did post my Word for the year, see here.

I don't have one. Secret fun fact: When I was younger I would tell people my middle name was Anahiz because I was jealous others had one and I didn't.

We have to do our best to stay positive: Glass half full.
8. Favorite TV show right now?
I was pretty obsessed with Pretty Little Liars, and Once Upon a time.
9. What is your favorite wild animal?
Lions are pretty kick ass.
10. One makeup item that you couldn't love without?
Let's be real, there is nothing that I couldn't live without, except food and water, but a general product I can't live without is mascara.

My questions for you:

BRIDESMAID DRESSES-WEDDING UPDATE

Wednesday, January 14, 2015

Holy colors! I had the colors for the wedding picked out. Then I went bridesmaid dress shopping, and quickly found out that the dresses that we love don't necessarily all come in the color I chose.

I don't mind switching up colors as I haven not set in stone decorations, invites or anything that the colors matters.

I have to decide on dresses and colors THIS week! It's a must. They need to be ordered so they come on time for alterations. Wish me luck.

I also felt pressured on Monday night to pick a dress from those available, however, am making an apt for another bridal store to see what they have to offer for my bridesmaids. I want them to feel comfortable.

Here are some inspirational photos I have collected (not necessarily the colors for the wedding).

I would love some inspirational words from those of you who have already gone through the wedding planning process. Please find my links below and tweet me or send me a message with your good luck wishes haha.. I need them. Also be sure to head over to our vlog channel, FiveMinutesandUs, and see a little but of the process-here

A NICE THING TO DO

Tuesday, January 13, 2015

The other day my good friend Kendwy from MindofKiwi posted something on her FACEBOOK wall. I rarely read long posts as I feel it has drama written all over it. However, since I saw it was from Kendwy (drama free poster) I read it:

After all the recent terrible tragedies that have happened and are happening, this world needs as much kindness as it can get. I'm participating in the 'Pay it Forward' initiative: The first five people who comment on this status with "I'm in" will receive a surprise from me at some point during this next calendar year- anything from a book, a ticket, something homemade, a postcard, absolutely any surprise! There will be no warning and it will happen when the mood comes over me and I find something that I believe would suit you and make you happy. These five people must make the same offer on their Facebook status. Once my first five have commented "I'm in" I will forward this message to you privately, so that you can copy and paste it, and put it on your status, (don't share it) so that we can form a web of connection of kindness. Let's do more nice and loving things in 2015, without any reason other than to make each other smile and show that we think of each other. Here's to a more enjoyable, friendly and love filled year!

I couldn't write "I'm in" any faster than I did! I am so excited about this I wanted to share with you all! My five friends have chosen to participate and they will receive something from me randomly this year! I'm looking forward to sharing when I send their surprises!

Give it a try!
Participate! It's a nice thing to do!

BTW: Jose started a new Instagram for his love for painting. Since this post has no photos I thought I would showcase one of his paintings.
Be sure to follow his Instagram, let him know I sent you- KingJPena

PARTY ON MY NAILS & YOU'RE INVITED

Monday, January 12, 2015

Oh Monday, I love you because you are indeed Mani Monday. Today I am sharing my last mani for the #nailartjan challenge.

This is my mani for "recreation". I loved a mani by @lifeisbetterpolished and decided I would recreate it. It is so fun and festive. So very bright and my nails look like there is a party going on.

I love dotticure's because they are so simple and can be done with several "tools" you have at home like a bobby pin or tooth pick.

I used from left to right:

JulieG-Fierce & Fab, Bonita Salon-Pear me up, L'oreal-Hit the slopes (as a base), Bonita Salon-Ride the Waves, Sally Hansen-Mellow Yellow and Essie-Peach Daiquiri.

What do you think? Festive right? Head over to my Instagram to see more! @EverythingVero #VeroSaysNails

FRESH.

Tuesday, January 6, 2015

Fresh, what does it mean to you? When I think of fresh I think of crisp, clear lines, solids. I originally saw the word for the #nailartjan (check out Californianails here) and thought I would do a white creamy color on my nails. Then I saw Sally Hansen's Pacific Blue and fell in love with the thought. Once on my nails I knew I had chosen the right color for me.

Everyone is different, what color would you have chosen for the word Fresh. Let me know in the comments section below and don't forget to use #VeroSaysNails to see my other manicure's.

Also, follow my blog to see more of my #nailartjan posts, I'll be posting all of hem on my Instagram, some on here.

WORD OF THE YEAR 2015

Thursday, January 1, 2015

This is something very new for me, as I don't often set resolutions and then make them public. Anywho, today I am inspired by Christy to have a Word of the Year. I am choosing a word for the year to help me remember the importance of living everyday and not dwelling on the negative moments life will throw at you.

Live.

Such a small word and you're probably shaking your head like "duh"! I choose Live as my word for 2015, and I invite you to follow along as I Live in the moment more.

What is your word for 2015? Let me know in the comments section below!
