VALENTINE'S DAY

Wednesday, February 12, 2014

I love Valentine's day, I really do. The hearts, the pink, the red, flowers, the Hershey Kisses..! The thought of getting dolled up and out on a date with your Valentine.. When men think about Valentine's day and what to get for their Valentine, the number one thing that pops up is most likely FLOWERS. The thought about it is very sweet, but I think Valentine's day has been so commercialized it's ruined. Flowers are jacked up, $50+, then you're at the store trying to purchase a card and the isle is a mess from people rushing in and out looking for a card. Never mind trying to go out to dinner, you have to make a reservation and if you don't you're stuck waiting a crazy amount of time to have a decent dinner.

Valentine's day just isn't what I remember it to be.

Give me flowers on Wednesday after a long day from work, just because.
Give chocolates on your way home from work just because, just because.
Make me a card with a sweet note on Saturday after we have had a long cleaning day at home, just because.

Yes, we are Pats fans :)

Please, don't misunderstand what I am trying to say. I love Valentine's day. I just don't want Jose spending a ton of money on flowers that are priced higher just because it is Valentines day. We joked the other day that he would rather give me the cash and have me buy something that will last me longer, and I completely agree.

Jose and I have a sweet relationship, we love to gift each other little things here and there just because. So, yes... We will celebrate Valentine's day, but our way (flowerless).. & actually we have our Valentine's day gift coming up at the end of the month..! Stay tuned for that!

Also, don't forget your friends, this isn't just a day to celebrate your love for your partner, but your friends as well. Kendwy from MindofKiwi and I are posting about our #friendlyswap214 , read more about that here. We are posting what we got each other on Valentine's day!

I am adding the following early this morning as I had written this up last night, but was surprised with a gift last night when Jose got home from work. I walked down I saw a gift bag and card on the stairs. He sure knows how make me a happy camper.. Polishes. He pays attention and knows what I am currently enjoying. I posted a picture of my Sally Hansen textured polishes and he got me two new colors, along with two from the Satin Glamfrom Sally Hansen as well. BEFORE Valentine's day, last year he gave me a gift a few days before Valentine's day as well.. I sense a pattern ;) I'll post a picture on my Instagram to show you which I chose for today!!

Everyone has their own opinions, this is mine.. I'd love to hear yours.. Let me know in the comments section below, do you want the whole 9 for Valentine's day..!? Judge free zone here, I'm just nosy and like to know what everyone will be up to.

  1. His gift is so sweet! We don't go all out with gifts or anything, we usually do a nice dinner out on Valentine's and our anniversary each year. I look forward to those dates. But there have been times we've just stayed home and had a nice cozy night in too :)

    1. Practical is our last name haha.. I think we were more into the whole flowers and chocolates when we were starting our relationship.. Now that we are saving for future plans we definitely think more practical :)

  3. I agree with you 100%! I am not the type of girl who adores flowers anyway, I just think it's ridiculous to pay more than $50 for something that's going to die in a few days. I'd rather have something more thoughtful and meaningful.
I love that he gave you polishes, so cute!
My husband usually gives me Valentine's gifts early too, this year...a puppy!

  4. Aw I love this and I'm totally with you! I love all the love and flowers etc but I don't just love that on one day of the year when society says I should, but every day! I prefer surprise presents all year round to show he was just thinking of me. It's too commercialised now, and I don't think you can express love by a day on a calender x

    1. I think it's fair to have a holiday for love, since we do celebrate Mother and Father's day- we love our parents every day, we also celebrate religious holidays and we believe everyday. It is definitely fair, but yes, too commercialized for me.

  5. I really love your view on vday and I totally agree with what you are saying. I'm not a flower girl either so I would rather him save his money. However, I do enjoy going out to for a nice dinner on vday. My husband and I usually go somewhere special that we can't go to often. The day is very commercialized but it still makes us take a step back from our everyday life and realize just how much we appreciate one another. If that makes any sense? Just like when you are celebrating your anniversary.Your husband/boyfriend is really sweet! I would take a nail polish or lip gloss that I wanted over flowers any day! Or even a hand written love note! Thanks so much for sharing hun!

    2. We made dinner reservations ahead of time. We went to a place called Legal Seafoods. It was PACKED but luckily since we had reservations we got right it. The food is great there.
